Immigration to Newfoundland and Labrador Increased Since 2017

Immigration to Newfoundland and Labrador has witnessed an elevated in immigration application submitted since the year 2017 till this date. This rise is credited to five year immigration action plan whose objective is to welcome around 1,700 newcomers yearly by 2022.

Immigrants who have plans to live and settle successful in Newfoundland and Labrador remained the focus of this week’s third Minister’s Roundtable on Immigration hosted by Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour. The meeting centralized on constructing new methods to lure skilled immigrants along with their families. This will also boost the provincial tech sector and other major industries as the economy relies on exploitation of offshore oil and gas reserves. Immigration is critical for the continuous decline in the population of workers which can make the province crawling for the skilled individuals by 2025.

This step has connected government, business, labour, municipal governments, community organization and service providers to pave the way for the Newfoundland Immigration action plan.

Newfoundland and Labrador has three immigration streams namely foreign workers and international graduates of Canadian universities, consisting one that is linked to the federal Express Entry system.

In July, the province has formulated two immigration province specially designed for the entrepreneurs which will opened to immigrants in the near future. The province also participates in Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP), which helps the employers to connect with eligible foreign workers and international graduates to fill the skill and labor shortages arising in the region.

The AIPP is resolute to invite more than 7,000 new Permanent Residents Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland and Labrador in the month of September published a list of employers designated under Atlantic Immigration Pilot and stimulated foreign skilled workers to approach them.
