Australia Permanent Residency Renewal

Australian Permanent Residency Renewal is required when the time-period of your permanent residency visa is about to expire or has been terminated. To apply for the renewal , you can choose the two pathways either apply for Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 or 157) or for Australian citizenship.

1) Australia Permanent Residency Renewal Process

To maintain your Australian Permanent Residency visa status, you have to apply for Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 and 157).

Resident Return Visa (RRV):

Resident return visa allows you to travel abroad when your Australia permanent residency visa has been lapsed or is about to terminate. It is segregated into two types, Resident return Visa (Subclass 155) and Resident return visa (subclass 157)

Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 and 157) is a travel facility program under Australian Immigration that allows you to travel overseas and helps in maintaining your permanent residency status.  If the travel facility date of your Australian permanent residency visa is expired or is about to end then at that time you can go for it. Leaving Australia before applying for RRV may effect  your citizenship.

Resident Return Visa Subclass 155 and 157 Requirements:

  1. You should be an Australia permanent resident.
  2. You have lived in Australia for the period of 2 years out of five years.
  3. There should no changes or addition in your birth document (i.e. name and date of birth) since the time after your last visa.
  4. For being eligible to 5-year 155 Resident Return Visa, you have to live for at least two years out of the five years in Australia.
  5. For being eligible to 155 Resident Return Visa, you have to spend at least 1 day legally in the duration of five years under your Australia Visa program.

Resident Return Visa Subclass 155 and 157 Conditions:

1)    If your last permanent resident visa has got canceled then, you can not apply for this visa program.

2)    If you already have received a notice from higher authorities that your permanent resident visa might get canceled then, your application will be rejected.

3)    You are not eligible to apply for this visa if you hold

a) a Return Endorsement (RE) (between the time-period of September 1979 to 31 December 1986)

  1. a BF-111
  2. an Authority To Return (ATR) (between the time-period of 1 March 1976 to 31 August 1979)

Resident Return Visa Subclass 155 and 157 Benefits:

Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 and 157) are the permanent visas that allow you to access the below-given benefits.

a) You can live and work in Australia.

b) You can study in Australia.

c) You are free to sponsor your eligible family members for permanent residency.

d) You may apply for Australian Citizenship if you meet the eligibility requirements.

 2)    Australia Permanent Residency Renewal Requirements

For being eligible to apply for Australian Permanent Residency Renewal requirements, you have to fulfill the certain requirements:

  1. You must be an Australian permanent resident.
  2. You should be a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not canceled
  3. A former Australian citizen who lost or renounced their citizenship.
  4. You should meet the health and character requirements.
  5. You must be a passport holder.

3)   Permanent Residency Renewal Fee

The cost is AUD 405.

4)     Processing Time
