HONG-KONG RESIDENTS TO GET OPEN-WORK PERMITS

The level of repair that Canada is planning to do with its economy is beyond amazing. The speed in which the country is inviting various candidates for different job profiles is great. The covid-19 pandemic has damaged the immigration goals majorly in the year 2020 but IRCC is launching new permits to revive it. Recently, Canada bought a new clause under the open-work permit. Candidates from Hong-Kong who were willing to migrate to Canada for the purpose of work are now allowed to apply for an open-work permit. This allows Hong-Kongers to gain work experience in the Canadian environment.  Earlier it was not this simple but after the announcement of a new open-work permit for the international students residing in Canada, it is now offering the same to Hong-Kongers. The biggest benefit of getting this open-work permit is that anyone who gets it will become eligible to work in canada which makes them fall into the category of Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The candidates from this category get additional points for their work experience depending on the number of years.

  • Less than 1 year 0 points
  • 1 year 40 points
  • 2 years 53 points
  • 3 years 64 points
  • 4 years 72 points
  • 5 years or more 80 points
These points are taken into consideration while calculating the CRS for Permanent Residency in Canada. So if a candidate enters canada with this visa and works under a specific employer, he or she will get additional canadian experience class points depending on their years of experience.  The eligibility criteria for this permit is quite simple as the candidate should be a graduate within a canadian post-secondary diploma/degree or any equivalent foreign degree within the last 5 years. The duration for this post graduation degree should at least be 2 years.

Who can apply?

Different types of people from distinctive countries visit Canada for various reasons but not all can have the work permit. Following are the categories of people who can apply for this open-work permit,
  1. Visitor Visa Holders (HongKongers)
  2. Foreign Students
  3. Temporary workers
The people who are already in Canada right now can apply but with corona safety measures like travel restrictions, mandatory quarantine and testing.

In addition to this, IRCC is working on two new work permits especially for encouraging Hongkongers.

  1. For hongkongers who have at least 1 year of canadian work experience along with the required language and education proficiency.
  2. International students who are about to complete their graduation from Canada will be offered permanent residency especially if they are graduating from a post secondary institution.
Both of these will come into action later this year as told by the canadian government. This new immigration measure is also applicable for people who have a Hong-Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) or British National Overseas passport.  For more information, stay tuned.
