Manitoba has welcomed 130,000 immigrants through MPNP in 20 year history

Manitoba has completed and is celebrating it 20 years of establishment. Till the current period, Manitoba has welcomed 130,000 immigrants through its provincial nominee program from its inception in 1998.

The intention behind introducing the provincial nominee program was to sponsor the newcomers for Canada permanent residency who can meet the economic requirements and can contribute to the growth of the province.

Almost every province and territories of Canada have their own provincial nominee program or PNP. The only province that does not have any PNP as it has a separate collaboration with federal government of Canada.

Manitoba population growth

There has been consistent rise in Manitoba population as well as in economic growth due to welcoming of immigrants every year. From the creation of MPNP in 1998, Manitoba has recorded positive growth of population through immigration.

The province has admitted that its GDP would remain 30% lower if this economic program MPNP has not been created which have significantly benefitted the province. Also, immigrants who have entered to the province through business stream have invested more than $308 to be eligible.

As regard to the latest statistics provided by the province, about 90% of immigrants are employed in the starting year of the program.

Innovation in Program

Manitoba had regularly kept a check on the functioning of MPNP with introduction of new programs over 20 years. A nomination stream for business immigrants is introduced in 2001 and addition of few skilled worker streams in a row.

The Innovation reached its climax in the year when it presented an overhaul of the MPNP in November 2017. The most important part behind this renewal program was to segregate the skilled worker overseas into two immigration streams including one aligned with the federal Express Entry system.

Through Canada’s three federal economic programs namely the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class, express entry select the eligible candidates from the pool of candidates.

The Express Entry stream is to facilitate the province to nominate the candidates who possess a good relation to Manitoba and required work experience in intended occupation which are listed in the in-demand occupation list.

From the express entry activation in January 2018, MPNP has issued 1,155 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination to eligible applicants.

Candidates must show a valid Express entry profile created and also submit an Expression of Interest to the Manitoba provincial nominee program (MPNP) to be eligible for the Express Entry.
