IRCC to Accept Results of New TCF Language Test

Canadian government has started accepting the results of new French Speaking test as a proof of language ability for the candidates who plan to apply for Permanent Residency in Canada.

The TCF test for Canada is governed by French government-run Centre International CIEP to test the proficiency of candidates in French language and it will be obtainable at the test centers approved in Canada and 150 more countries.

As per CIEP, TCF Canada is designed to correspond with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s standards of French language.

Candidates who are under economic immigration programs which includes those managed by Express Entry system- Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class- ought to provide proof of sufficient level of proficiency in either of the languages in English and French if a candidates needs to qualify for Canada Immigration in which both the languages serve as official languages.

The results of both TCF Canada and TEF Canada are honored by IRCC.

A point to be noted at this stage is that English speaking candidates who are applying for permanent residency are not required to provide results of the French test unless and until they are claiming French language ability.

Test accepted for English proficiency is International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or other is Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP).

Canadian government and the provinces like Ontario has established many measures to encourage francophone immigration and bolster Canada’s French Speaking communities that are outside of Quebec.

Ontario’s Express Entry that is aligned to French Speaking Worker Stream is the most active pathways for francophone economic immigration and 1383 invitations has been issued to eligible Express Entry candidates in the present year.

The census of 2016 in Canada found more than seven million Canadians who speak French as their mother tongue. Of this figure 9,50,000 people lived outside the Quebec province.
