British Columbia’s Draws of February month 2020

It seems that British Columbia has been busy this month as it held three consecutive draws under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The British Columbia province announced that it has decided to stop posting the scores that escalate Invitation to apply (ITA) to applicants under any of the BC PNP categories. Talking of the year 2020, British Columbia issued a total of 806 invitations to candidates under the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC categories so far and in February month only, about 221 invitations were sent under the Tech Pilot Draws particularly.

Candidates in British Columbia interested in applying for Canada Immigration under one of the provincial immigration streams must have an employment offer in one of 29 eligible occupations that might be considered for Invitation to apply through the Tech Pilot Program.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program BCPNP Tech Pilot is the fast-track immigration pathway for international students and In-Demand Tech workers. To be eligible to apply under the Tech Pilot program, applicants have to create a profile on the BC PNP’s online portal and get registered under its Skill Immigration Registration System (SIRS) in one of the Skills Immigration or Express Entry BC categories. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Jobs Economic Development and Competitiveness told to CIC News in an email that they are going to continue providing support to the tech sector’s growth through weekly draws. Also, one of the program’s representatives from the BCPNP told that the tendency of invitations is entirely based on the annual nomination allocations from the Federal Government and the program’s processing capacity. The Tech Pilot Draw was introduced in 2017 to attract International talent in the technology sector in British Columbia.

Previously, guaranteed invitation scores for every category was released to point toward the minimum points required by an individual to have a guaranteed invitation. Candidates under the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC immigration categories are given a score based on economic and human capital factors.

Points are given on the factors such as employment offer, the wage, and the regional district of employment along with the applicant’s work experience, education, and language ability. The Skills Immigration Program is for skilled and semi-skilled workers with occupations that are in high demand in the province. Express Entry candidates have to qualify for one of the three federal economic immigration programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program or Canada  Experience Class.
